Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the just-ended 22 nd Panaad sa Negros Festival held at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City was very successful, and was beyond expectations.
Total sales during the festival was P7.24 million which is 31 percent higher than last year’s sales, and does not include orders made, he said.
Of the P7.2 million in sales the local government pavilions had sales of P3,836,148, garden show – P1,500,000, organic village – P865, 630 and livestock – P1,044, 205.
At the LGU pavilions the top grosses were San Carlos City that sold furniture made of hardwood and peanuts for P1,312,050, Cadiz City that sold dried fish – P718,579 and Calatrava that had bags and furniture – P614,727, Marañon said.
The festival ended Sunday but up to yesterday morning some people were at the Panaad buying goods still being sold.
Marañon said even former Gov. Rafael Coscolluela, who founded the Panaad Festival 22 years ago, said he did not foresee that it would become so successful 22 years later.
The governor attributed the success of the Panaad Garden show headed by Eric Loretizo to the landscaped exhibits that allowed better appreciation of the plants for sale.
He also noted that the organic village booths increased from 64 in 2014 to 108 this year.
The traffic problems at the Panaad were also addressed this year, he said.
But the governor admitted that there is a need to expand the parking lot and the Panaad sa Negros site that has become crowded, as more and more people participate in the festival.
He also noted that, despite the huge crowds at the festival it was peaceful with no reports of violence breaking out.
The governor also took note of a suggestion that the animal petting area for children be held year-round.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena had said earlier that the petting area is designed to wean children away from playing only with gadgets, and to teach them love for farm animals and how to raise them.
“We are open to all suggestions, solicited or unsolicited, on how to improve the Panaad sa Negros festival,” the governor said.
He said suggestions may be sent to his office at the Capitol in Bacolod City.*CPG
