According to the news, the owners of the company will be interviewed to know why is there an overcrowding in the building, the owners will be also asked why they allowed workers to do welding without any permit.
According to the Fire chief, they didn’t receive any call that there is a fire, but when they saw the smoke coming from the building, within 3 minutes they immediately responded. They are thinking that the employees inside the building tried to put out the fire, but eventually, they failed to do so.
It was also stated that whenever a company exceed a total of 50 workers they should at least install some sprinklers in both floors of the building.

Pacquiao: ‘I thought I won the fight, he didn’t do anything’

“I thought I won the fight.”

That was how Manny Pacquiao reacted after his unanimous decision defeat to Floyd Mayweather on Saturday (Sunday PHL time).

As expected, Pacquiao was the more aggressive fighter during the fight, stalking Mayweather outside the ring. But it was Mayweather’s accurate counterpunching that earned the nod of the judges, who scored the fight 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112 for the American fighter.

“It was a good fight,” said Pacquiao. “I thought I won the fight. He didn’t do anything.”

Though Pacquiao repeatedly forced Mayweather to backpedal, the wily American blunted his opponent’s best efforts by using his renowned defensive skills while getting in several telling jabs and punches of his own.

The showdown between the two best boxers of their generation, dubbed the ‘Fight of the Century’, had been more than five years in the making and is expected to be the biggest-grossing prize bout of all time. — with Reuters/JST, GMA News

PNoy on Veloso’s case: We didn’t create the problem, but we did everything to help

Following criticisms from the mother of migrant worker Mary Jane Veloso, President Benigno Aquino III on Friday maintained that his government did everything it can to save the Filipina drug convict from death row.

In a media interview in Cebu City, Aquino noted that Veloso was arrested even before he assumed the presidency.

“We did what we could. We were not involved in the creation of the problem. You must remember she was arrested, if I am not mistaken, April of 2010,” the President told reporters after Labor Day rites in Naga City.

Earlier in the day, Veloso’s mother, Celia, said Aquino’s government was not the reason why her daughter was spared from execution.

“Ngayon ay nandito na kami sa Pilipinas ay marami kaming sisingilin sa gobyerno. Sabi nila sa kanila nanggaling kung bakit hindi natuloy ang bitay ng anak ko, hindi totoo ‘yon,” Veloso’s mother said at a press briefing shortly after they arrived from Jakarta.

President Aquino refused to comment on these statements, saying he wants to see the entirety and know the context of what Veloso’s mom said.

He nevertheless said that his administration extended all the help it can to help Veloso and her family, including high-level talks with Indonesian officials.

“What more can the government do? From the counsel that were provided, from the intercessions done through with President [Joko] Widodo, with foreign ministers, through the Attorney General…. Iyong, di ba, bringing the entire family there also,” Aquino said.

The President likewise stressed that the Philippine government did all of these fully aware of Indonesia’s tough stance against illegal drugs.

Veloso was spared from execution by a firing squad early Wednesday, after Aquino made a last-minute appeal to the Indonesian government to turn the Filipina convicted on drug charges into a witness.

Aquino told the Indonesian foreign minister on Tuesday morning that Veloso’s testimony is necessary to catch the drug syndicate that supposedly duped her into smuggling heroin into Indonesia, following the surrender of her alleged recruiter. —KBK, GMA News

Philippine newspapers get it wrong on Mary Jane Veloso execution

Several Philippine newspapers were caught out on Wednesday by the last-minute execution reprieve for Mary Jane Veloso, running front-page headlines bidding her farewell and accusing the government of failing to save her.

“Death came before dawn” read the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s dramatic headline, above a large photograph of Veloso, 30, whose plight has captivated the nation.

Manila’s best-selling Filipino-language tabloid, Abante, ran a black-themed front page together with a picture of Veloso, head bowed, and a headline in capitals that translates as: “Farewell, Mary Jane”.

Indonesia defied global anger to execute eight drug smugglers by firing squad early on Wednesday, but spared Veloso at the 11th hour in a decision her ecstatic family welcomed as a “miracle”.

Veloso had always claimed an international trafficking gang tricked her into bringing 2.6kg of heroin to Indonesia from Malaysia five years ago as she chased a nonexistent job as a domestic worker.

The Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, granted the reprieve after Cristina Sergio, suspected of recruiting Veloso, turned herself in to authorities in the Philippines.

However, the news of the cancelled midnight execution came too late for most Filipino newspapers rushing to put out their final print editions.

“PNOY is to blame” the tabloid Standard’s headline read, referring to criticism over the supposed “negligence” of the government of Benigno Aquino, using media shorthand for his nickname, president Noynoy.

“All hopes fade” was the Manila Times’headline, and the Manila Bulletin reflected the drama across three editions with the evolving headlines “We’re hoping for a miracle”, “No delay in execution” and, finally, “Veloso granted reprieve”.

The erroneous print-edition headlines swiftly became fodder for ridicule; the online news site Coconuts Media ran an item chiding the media for “killing” Veloso.

One Facebook user posted a composite picture of the front page snafu together with one of the US president-elect Harry Truman holding a copy of the famous Chicago Tribune headline “Dewey defeats Truman”.

“Proof that journalism hasn’t really changed much in the past six decades,” the caption read.

Mayweather–Pacquiao final press conference quotes

By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao met on Wednesday for their final press conference at the KA Theater at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was something where they both needed to be in the same place at the same time in order for them to participate in a press conference together, not separately like what we had on Tuesday when Pacquiao opted not to participate in the grand arrival at the MGM Grand.

Instead, Pacquiao had his own smaller meeting with the press and fans at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

During the face off, Mayweather towered over a smiling Pacquiao. The size difference between them was significant. Pacquiao did his best to show that he wasn’t afraid of Mayweather, but it looked like false courage on his part. I thought it looked feigned like he was acting and trying not to show his fear of Mayweather.

Pacquiao has beaten taller guys than Mayweather like Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Chris Algieri and Oscar De La Hoya, but no one that you can call a good fighter at the time that Pacquiao fought them.

De La Hoya, Margarito and Mosley were all pretty well shot by the time Pacquiao fought them. But Mayweather is the first bigger guy that Pacquiao has fought that is both talented and in his prime. That’s why Mayweather’s size advantage could play into his hands on Saturday night in their fight at the MGM Grand.

In terms of trash talking between the two fighters. It was mild and almost boring compared to some of the past press conferences that Mayweather has been involved in.

“The lord my god will deliver him into my hands on Saturday,” Pacquiao said after the press conference. “I love being the underdog.

That’s about the closest that the two fighters got to tough talk, and that was a case of Pacquiao telling Showtime broadcaster Brian Custer rather than the audience.

As for as the press conference, Pacquiao got to talk first before Mayweather.
“Floyd and I, we’ve been working hard to entertain you on Saturday. To give a good fight on Saturday. Nothing personal, we’re just doing our job, doing our best on Saturday to put our name in boxing history. But the most important thing, I’m hoping after the fight we can have a conversation with Floyd sharing my faith about God.”

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum did most of the talking at the press conference. There was a lot of other top executives from the MGM, Showtime and HBO that spoke as well. Nothing of real substance was said by any of them in my view, and it was difficult to stay awake as they droned on about this or that.

“It’s time to fight now. You guys came out here to see excitement,” Mayweather said. “You guys came out here to see a great event. That’s what both competitors bring to the table. Excitement. The biggest fight in boxing history. And I’m a part of it so that’s a great thing. I feel good. I feel strong. I’ll see you guys Saturday.”

Pana-ad sales hit P7.2M

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the just-ended 22 nd Panaad sa Negros Festival held at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City was very successful, and was beyond expectations.

Total sales during the festival was P7.24 million which is 31 percent higher than last year’s sales, and does not include orders made, he said.

Of the P7.2 million in sales the local government pavilions had sales of P3,836,148, garden show – P1,500,000, organic village – P865, 630 and livestock – P1,044, 205.

At the LGU pavilions the top grosses were San Carlos City that sold furniture made of hardwood and peanuts for P1,312,050, Cadiz City that sold dried fish – P718,579 and Calatrava that had bags and furniture – P614,727, Marañon said.

The festival ended Sunday but up to yesterday morning some people were at the Panaad buying goods still being sold.

Marañon said even former Gov. Rafael Coscolluela, who founded the Panaad Festival 22 years ago, said he did not foresee that it would become so successful 22 years later.

The governor attributed the success of the Panaad Garden show headed by Eric Loretizo to the landscaped exhibits that allowed better appreciation of the plants for sale.

He also noted that the organic village booths increased from 64 in 2014 to 108 this year.

The traffic problems at the Panaad were also addressed this year, he said.

But the governor admitted that there is a need to expand the parking lot and the Panaad sa Negros site that has become crowded, as more and more people participate in the festival.

He also noted that, despite the huge crowds at the festival it was peaceful with no reports of violence breaking out.

The governor also took note of a suggestion that the animal petting area for children be held year-round.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena had said earlier that the petting area is designed to wean children away from playing only with gadgets, and to teach them love for farm animals and how to raise them.

“We are open to all suggestions, solicited or unsolicited, on how to improve the Panaad sa Negros festival,” the governor said.

He said suggestions may be sent to his office at the Capitol in Bacolod City.*CPG
