Mary Jane Veloso spared from execution

 

(UPDATED 1:58 a.m.) Mary Jane Veloso has been spared from execution by Indonesian authorities early Wednesday

GMA News’ Emil Sumangil broke the news on radio dzBB early Wednesday, citing reports from local Indonesian media.

Olan Bola also reported an announcement at the Indonesian Embassy in Manila.

The other eight drug convicts, including two Australians, four Nigerians, a Brazilian, and an Indonesian were not spared.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to confirm the reports.

CNN Indonesia is reporting that that Veloso’s execution was postponed after Christine Pasadilla, alias Kristina Sergio, the recruiter who allegedly tricked her into carrying drugs into Indonesia, turned herself in to authorities on Tuesday.

Indonesian president Joko Widodo reportedly called for a meeting with his officials on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Veloso case after Pasadilla surfaced
